Audrey Hepburn stamps raise $600,000 for charity

Posted: October 17th, 2010

A sheet of rare Audrey Hepburn stamps was auctioned for charity in Berlin last night and raised $600,000 for The Audrey Hepburn Children's Fund and UNICEF.

The stamps, featuring a photograph of Audrey as Holly Golightly from Breakfast at Tiffany's, were supposed to be destroyed after permission to use the image was not granted. The stamps were not approved because of the way the original photograph had been modified. Alterations to the original photograph included: flipping Audrey's face, removing the sunglasses and adding a cigarette holder - an item that appears in many Breakfast at Tiffany's publicity shots.

Exclusive to Audrey1.org is this mockup of what the stamp might have looked like if the original photo hadn't been modified:

Amazing! Does anybody have any Audrey Memorabilia they are looking to sell? I am working on a New Primetime Channel 4 Series and we are looking for people with interesting items or collections they would like to sell. If so contact me on 0207 861 8224 or email me at items@talkbackthames.tv!
