From April 6th 2009, Green Mansions will finally be available on DVD from Digital Classics, a UK DVD distributor.
There's no word yet about subtitles or special features, but as a Region 2 release, it should be playable in Western and Central Europe; Western Asia; Egypt, Japan, South Africa, Swaziland, Lesotho; United Kingdom, Turkey, and French overseas territories.
Directed by Audrey's husband, Mel Ferrer, Green Mansions is a story about a young Venezuelan idealist who flees his native land to escape a revolution. Hoping to find peace, he goes to the mountains and the forests of the Amazon. There he encounters Rima, the Bird Girl, an orphan living a life of nature. It is an admirable romance telling a tale of quest, love, and violence.
Green Mansions was released in 1959 during the height of Audrey's popularity, but has been noticeable by the fact it has never had an official DVD release. Anyone wishing to complete their collection of Audrey movies has had to settle for an official VHS release or an unofficial DVD found in the pirate boxed sets from China - which was often just the low quality VHS release transferred to DVD. Hopefully a Region 1 release is not too far away.
As always, you can order Green Mansions from Amazon.
