Audrey Outfits to be Auctioned in December

Posted: 12th October, 2009

A number of outfits that once belonged to Audrey Hepburn are to be sold at auction in December. The outfits, which include designs by Givenchy, Valentino and Elizabeth Arden, are to be auctioned by Kerry Taylor Auctions in London on behalf of a close friend of Audrey.

The auction will include a cocktail dress worn by Audrey in the movie How to Steal a Million, a dress worn in publicity shots for Paris When it Sizzles, and a silk cocktail dress from Givenchy's 1966 Autumn-Winter collection. These dresses have been valued around £8,000 - £15,000, but even in the current economic climate, somebody with more money than sense is likely to pay well above these prices for them. No doubt to end up as a marketing gimmick or hidden away in someone's private collection - it's unlikely any real fan will purchase them.

As yet, there doesn't seem to be many details available about the auctions. The official website of the auctioneers doesn't list this sale - yet. We'll post more details when we have them.

I totally agree with the two options proposed by Anna. However, since the person presently owning these collector's items is not identified, let us not judge too fast. Maybe, this unknown person is experiencing financial difficulties and needs the money that the auction will bring to him (or her). Instead, let us watch who will acquire these dresses and what this person will do afterwards . . .

I also agree with Anna. You won't get another chance to auction off all the clothes that she wore, once thier all out. I think that they should make a musuem, all about Audrey Hepburn!
